Over/Under 2.5 Goals Betting

How Over/Under 2.5 goals betting works, when to back Over 2.5, and how our Dixon-Coles model predicts total goals.

What is Over/Under 2.5?

Over 2.5 means you bet on three or more goals being scored in the match. Under 2.5 means two or fewer goals. It's one of the most popular football betting markets because it doesn't depend on which team wins.

How our model predicts totals

The Dixon-Coles model estimates expected goals (xG) for each team based on their attack strength, defensive strength, and home advantage. The combined xG determines the Over/Under probability. When combined xG exceeds 2.5, the model favours Over 2.5.

When to back Over 2.5

Over 2.5 typically offers value when both teams have strong attacks and weak defences. Derbies and matches between top-half teams often produce high-scoring games.
